Samuel Oki, a relative of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s uncle, who was kidnapped on Tuesday February 17 along with the uncle, has been buried in Otuoke.
The deceased was taken away with Jonathan’s uncle and killed by the kidnappers.
People who attended the funeral include former Commissioner for Health, Mr. Azibapu Eruani, and the Chairman of Azikiel Construction Company. The Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Government House, Mr. Promise Ekio, former Special Adviser to President Jonathan Mr. Ariolor Jonathan and Dr. Elisabeth Oki, the personal physician to the former President.
Mr. Paul Igbogamin, a family member of the deceased said he was sad over the demise of Oki, urging the family and well-wishers to stay calm and leave everything to God.
“No amount of tears can bring this our brother back, vengeance is of the Lord, He knows everything, I believe his death will not go in vain,” he said.
The body of the cousin to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Samuel Oki, abducted along with the foster father, Chief Inegite Jonathan, was found floating on Otuoke River in Bayelsa State.
A family member of the deceased, Mr Igbogamini Paul, said after the kidnap, they heard a gunshot but never knew that it was the said relative that was shot by the kidnappers.
He expressed sadness over the incident, adding that the death of Oki, aged 35, was painful to the family.
The villagers were seen discussing the sad incident in hushed tones in their native Ogbia language. According to them, native divers and local fisherman recovered the body and anchored it by the riverside to prevent the body from being carried away by water currents. The body was deposited at a morgue in the area.
Meanwhile, sympathisers have been visiting the Otuoke residence of the abducted chief located within the neighbourhood of the former President’s country home .
