Governor’s ex-aide arrested for offering N10m bride to EFCC

Abnedgo Don-Evarada, a former Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Don-Evarada was arrested on Monday in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, for offering a bribe of N10 million to the EFCC’s Zonal Head, Ishaq Salihu.
Don-Evarada ran into trouble when he approached Salihu over a case involving the Senior Special Assistant to Dickson on Millennium Development Goals, Apere Embelakpo, and his wife, Fiene Beauty.
Embelakpo is being investigated for alleged diversion of N800 million, being funds meant for meeting the Millennium Development Goals, while his wife is being investigated for alleged money laundering, forgery and suspicious transactions to the tune of N200million.
Don-Evarada, according to a statement by the EFCC on Tuesday, offered the bribe ostensibly to compromise the EFCC investigation, but his overture was turned down and was arrested.
He is being kept in the custody of the EFCC and would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded, the statement said.
