FG Supports Dangote On Concrete Road..Why It’s Better

ALIKO-DANGOTEThe Federal Government has commended Dangote Industries Limited for the construction of the first concrete road in Nigeria.

Dangote was recently awarded the contract for the construction of the concrete paved Obajana-Kabba Road in Kogi State.

According to a statement from the firm, the commendation was given by the Minister for Works, Housing and Power, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, during the inauguration of the 24km Itori-Ibese concrete road at Itori, Ogun State, which was constructed by the Ag-Dangote Construction Company Limited, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility services to the community.

Fashola, while explaining why the government awarded the contract to Dangote,  said, “It is a matter of law because there is an existing government policy that allows the government to give a tax waiver in exchange of services from private investors, especially in the area of infrastructural facilities provision, which the government needs direly.”

He announced that the final letter of contract award for the Obajana-Kabba road was ready for collection and urged other firms to come up with proposals, as the government was in dire need of more infrastructure to boost the economy.

The President, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, was said to have described the event as historic, adding, “The road is the first concrete road that we at Dangote Industries Limited will be formally inaugurating in Nigeria.

“This 24km road, which is the longest stretch of concrete road in the country today, was constructed by AG-Dangote Construction Limited, our joint venture company with Andrade Gutierrez (AG), the leading construction company in Brazil.

”In Nigeria, roads infrastructure is a major wheel in the economic progress but, unfortunately, well over 95 percent of both federal and state roads in the country were built with asphalt which is why majority of them are in deplorable condition after years of wear and tear without proper maintenance.
