Local government winners will on Thursday emerge at the ongoing Zenith Bank-sponsored Delta State Principal’s Cup.
The competition which started on March 16 with Okwe Secondary School defeating Zappa Mixed Secondary School 1-0 in the opening match, has thrown up great talents in the state.
According to the organisers, a winner each will emerge from the 25 local governments of the state and will be grouped into eight where the quarterfinalists will emerge.
Ebie also said mechanism has been put in place to detect any mercenary from the schools so has to have a worthy champion.
“Apart from working with the schools competing in the competition, we have a group of technical/verification committee that would be on the lookout for any student that is above the stipulated age of 16,” he said.
“This is a formative competition and we cannot afford to mess it up by allowing for mercenaries to compete for schools. Any school(s) caught in any act of malpractices would be expelled from the competition.”
Reiterating the statement of the commissioner, the Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Ebenezer Onyeagwu, said schools should not be involved in act that will destroy the legacy of the competition.
