Oluyole Babes Women Basketball Club of Ibadan on Thursday in Abuja beat Ekiti Angels 48- 27 at the ongoing 2017 Zenith Bank Women Basketball League.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match was one of the six Match Day 4 games at the league’s Phase One, holding at the Abuja National Stadium
Oluyole Babes lost their earlier games, losing their first game on Tuesday against Benue Princesses 29-42 and the second on Wednesday against IGP Queens of Abuja 13-61.
Oluyole Babes however took control of this game by leading at the end of all the quarters, 10-8 in the first, 23-14 in the second, 37-21 in the third.
At the end of the match, Yemi Abiodun , coach of Oluyole Babes , said he was happy they recorded their first win.
“This is our third game. We lost two games, and this is our first victory. I am satisfied with my players because they played to instructions, and they gave me a good result.
“I now need to strengthen our defence and I also need to work more on our rebounce.We will work hard more on my players for us to win our next match against GT 2000 on Saturday ,” he said.
On his part, Adetayo Awojiru, the coach of Ekiti Angels, said it was a good game which they unfortunately lost.
“The game was good, but it was not in our favour. My players did not play to my expectations. I really wanted to win the game because this is the third game we are losing.
“They missed a lot of their throws. But I will correct all the mistakes so that our next game will be better than today’s game,’’ he said.
NAN reports that Ekiti Angels has lost their first game on Monday against IGP Queens 19-100 and also lost their second game against Nigeria Customs 22-63 on Tuesday.
NAN reports that in the first match of the day, Plateau Rocks beat Taraba Hurricanes 67-20, while in the second game Zamfara Babes lost to Delta Force 21-50 .
In the fourth game, AHIP Queens of Kaduna lost to First Bank of Lagos 39-91 while in the fifth game, Sunshine Angels of Akure lost to Dolphins of Lagos 46-63.
18 clubs, divided into three groups, are playing in the annual competition.
