UBA wins Asian banker award for project execution

United Bank of Africa Plc, (UBA) has won the Asian Banker Award for project execution. According to the Bank, what makes this award spectacular is the pioneering role that the bank played in adopting the Finacle Core Banking Application in undertaking such major technology decisions as core bank replacements. This is the first time that an African owned bank is winning such awards. Finacle as a core banking product and the services of CWG Plc and Infosys has supported the extremely fast growth of UBA to more than 18 African countries and position as the highest issuer of debit cards.

Chief Executive Officer of CWG Plc, James Agada, said: the bank is not just our customer but also a reference point. UBA challenges us to think beyond current limitations and aim for the skies.

“These awards are truly deserved by the bank. The executive and board led by Elumelu and Uzoka are making us proud as Nigerians and as their service providers”, Agada said.

“This is the first time that an African owned bank is winning such awards. Of course these awards are on the back of the excellent work that UBA’s management team lead by Kennedy Uzoka did in rolling out the latest version of Finacle to 23 countries in Africa.

This unprecedented feat stretched UBA and her partners CWG Plc and Infosys to the limit and is now gaining global recognition.

Stretching to the limit and achieving what appears to be impossible is in UBA’s DNA, the lion king ambition enunciated by Tony Elumelu has driven UBA to the pinnacle of banking in Nigeria and West Africa”, the bank said in a statement.
