Islamic State of Iraq and Syria otherwise known as ISIS is believed to have carried out the attacks on a mosque in North Sinai .It has left at least 235 people dead after Juma’at prayer.
Quoting local media, CNN had confirmed the 235 death toll on Friday following the terrorist attack in which 109 were also injured.
According to CNN,(1) the attack began with two explosions.
(2)Gunmen were said to have positioned themselves outside the mosque, shelling worshippers as they attempted to flee the Al Rawdah Mosque.
(3) the gunmen had also set up ambush points on the path of ambulances responding to the attack.
The terrorists were said to have shot at the ambulances conveying the wounded worshippers as they passed by.
The CNN said on Friday that no one had claimed responsibility for the attack suspected to have been carried out by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria otherwise known as ISIS.
A spokesperson for the Egyptian health ministry, Khalid Mujahid, described the incident as a “terrorist attack” while the country’s President, Abdel Fatah el-Sisi, was said to have summoned a meeting of the nation’s security committee to discuss repercussions of the attack, CNN said, quoting local media.
The Egyptian government had also declared three days of national mourning.
