Amangbo shines as Zenith Bank/Ikoyi Club Tennis hots up

Peter Amangbo puts up a great display by beating Gbenga Olatubosun 5-1, 5-2 to move close to the knockout stage as the 4th Zenith Bank/Ikoyi Club Tennis Tournament hots up.

Amangbo, who incidentally is the Managing Director of Zenith Bank, was in total control of the Men’s Class A singles played on Court Four hitting series of winners to the delight of the crowd. He is billed to confront Emeka Azinge in his next match and a win will see him move closer to the medal zone.

Defending champion of the Men’s Class A singles Godwin Kienka was also on top of his game as he claimed a 5-1, 5-2 win over Tunde Majekodunmi and he was also triumphant as he paired Oyesanya to record a 5-1, 5-1 win over Adepoju/Ogunleye in the doubles.

Chinedu Idike also defeated Ekene Nwokolo 5-0, 4-5, 10-7 and Ayodeji Akintola bested Jude Efuribe 4-5, 5-4, 10-8.

Spade Ofoegbu saw off Idris Bello-Osagie 5-2, 5-0 just as Femi Fanoiki out-rallied Seyi Oladapo. Gbenga Familoni triumphed over Tockukwu Adino 5-0, 2-0 ret. while Felix Ugwueke outplayed D. Korede 5-1, 5-0.

Femi George, Tunde Olujobi, Yemi Lashore, Sedan Dada, Bolaji Oshiga also got off to winning starts in the tournament which has eight titles at stake in seven categories.

In the Women’s singles, C. Falase bagged a 5-3, 5-0 win over Y. Babaeko same for E. Effiong who edged R. Monu 5-3, 4-5, 10-7; and A. Areje topped I. Faustina 5-1, 5-4.

In the men’s doubles, Oladapo/Nedd scale the hurdle of Okubena/Lashore just as Fanoiki/Abijo saw off Labisi/Muyiwa.
