NGO launches 5-languages -App on maternal & child health

An Application translated into 5 languages of English, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo and Pidgin English – which is the first of its kind in the world, has been launched!.A Non-Governmental Organization, Health Education and Empowerment Initiative (HEDEN) is behind the milestone, with the sole aim of to curbing maternal and child mortality.
The event which took place at Bezer Halls and Hotels in Sango Ota Ogun state has corporate organizations, NGOs, ministries present to witness the historic event.
According to the Executive Director of HEDEN, Mrs. Folasade Ofurune, the initiative is a result of a 3 months research conducted by her organization in community Health centers across Ifo local government area of Ogun state. She mentioned that it became imperative to launch this app as result of the knowledge gaps and myths discovered among pregnant women and nursing mothers in the course of their work at the grassroots as it relates to pregnancy and childcare.
Buttressing her point, Dr. Omolaso Omosehin, Head of the United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA) said that the launch of the Sweet Mother App is a first aid kit for the family. He mentioned that according to the UNFPA database there are about 586 maternal death per 1,000 live births and this is largely due to lack of information, which the Sweet Mother App will address.
Also in attendance at the event, is the Executive Director of the Nigerian Network of NGOs (NNNGO), Mr. Oluseyi Oyebisi. According to Oyebisi, this is a milestone for the NNNGO as the outcome of the event will be used for policy briefing.
The application provides answers to questions around pregnancy, breast care, diseases, sex, and family life. Launching the App was the Executive secretary of the Ogun State Primary Healthcare board, Dr. Elijah Ogunshola who represented the commissioner for health at the event. Cutting the tape, he launched the App to the glory of God and to the benefit of mankind.
The Programs Director of HEDEN, Henry Ofurune dedicated the App to Late Dr. R. Bradley Sack who was the Director of Child Health Foundation, USA from 2009 – 2017. In his address, he stated that Dr. Bradley Sack is an unsung HERO whose work in combating infectious diseases, most notably diarrheal diseases including cholera, helped avert millions of deaths around the world, particularly among infants and young children. His research into diarrheal diseases led to his discovery of Oral Rehydration Treatment (ORT), a solution of sugar, salt, potassium and water that restored lost fluid and prevented dehydration and death. The treatment would eventually become standard, adopted by the World Health Organization, and has been credited with saving over 50 million lives in the past 30 years.
The App was funded by Child health foundation USA, Rainbow Cards Ltd and Olubayo Nig. Ltd. The App can be downloaded on googleplay and playstore.
