That Uba Adams, officer-in-charge of the Zone 2 Police Command Monitoring Unit in Lagos, was a beneficiary of the recent promotion released by the police authorities is nothing but cheering to all his teeming admirers. This is precipitated on his diligence and commitment to the course of fighting crime.
A notably proficient cop with a distinctive difference, Uba’s prodigy in crime detection and tracking of criminals is no mean feat and has continually left most believers in his agility and enthusiasm in this regards, both within the civilian populace and in the police circle, in a perpetual awe. This explains why he is seemingly the apple eye of the superlative police operational juggernaut, AIG Ahmed Iliyasu, his age-long mentor and teacher of teachers. AIG Ahmed Iliyasu is so confident of this Shiroro prince in Niger State that he always wants him around him everywhere he holds sway, to handle the most challenging, critical and tasking area of policing (crime busting).
In Ogun State Police Command, for instance, this enigmatic, ebullient officer warmed himself into the hearts of many with his outstanding performance as officer-in-charge of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS), where a number of notorious suspected criminals, who had over the years held the state in the jugular, were brought to justice.
The marauders, with notoriety in armed robbery, cultism and kidnapping, during Uba’s short stint in that office, knew there was no room for them to hibernate in the state, as the small statured officer maximally exhibited his innate intelligence to clip their wings, forcing the “lucky” ones amongst them to read between the lines that operating within the Gateway State was, indeed, treading on a dangerous terrain and akin to suicidal mission. They had to flee, which, in essence, translated to “the fear of Uba was the beginning of wisdom to criminals”.
Such terrible cultists like Spartan, now in jail, after his “magical” arrest and arraignment in court by the Uba Adams-led SARS had, prior to that, been living with the illusion that he was untouchable, relying on juju. But when his time was up, his juju failed him, as his arrest was like picking a fowl from the cage. Ditto those in other fields of criminality.
One other unsurpassed achievement recorded by Uba, among several others, was the busting of five members of a kidnap syndicate that abducted a man around OPIC Estate on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, ferried him by boat to the riverine area of Igbokoda in Ondo State, where they, after collecting ransom in millions, the heartless hoodlums still went ahead to snuff life out of him and buried him in a shallow grave at the river bank.
At a point, while still steering the ship of SARS in Ogun State, Uba, given reports of his outstanding performance, was transferred to Squadron 48 of the Mobile Police Force (Mopol 48) in Ahoada, Rivers State on March 5, 2019, as the Squadron Commander, a short while after, he was posted to Kano State Police Command as officer-in-charge of Anti-DABA (Anti Cultism) and OC the state SARS.
In Kano, where cases of domestic animals rustling was a recurring decimal, as well as sophisticated kidnapping, rape and robbery, during which hoodlums in their numbers, armed with dangerous cudgels, invaded villages, Uba was able to check these anormalies, arrested a very large number of the criminals and charged them to court. In some instances of exchange fire with the SARS operatives, most of the hoodlums were gunned down. Reports have it that, within one year in the saddle, over 3,000 criminals were nabbed, forcing others to flee the state and gave respite to the citizenry. All these achievements so much impressed the governor and his management team that, when transfer took him away to Zone 2 Command in Lagos, the governor was depressed and wished he could be retained for as long he (governor) wished.
At Zone 2, he was initially made head of the Zonal Intervention Squad, Ikorodu on February 5, 72019 and later moved to the Zonal Monitoring Team (ZMT) as officer-in-charge, where his professional acumen was further amplified.
Some of his successes within a short spate of time in that office are as follows:
Arrest of three suspects who conspired to murder the CEO of Fireman Generator, Late Chief Ignatius Odunukwe.
*Arrest of a notorious Indian hemp dealer, 29-year-old Sanni Abiodun, at Araromi Street, Offin town, Igbogbo Ikorodu, Lagos.
*A syndicate of five persons comprising four males and one female who specialised in stealing and transferring funds from people’s account through their SIM Cards.
*Arrest of six suspected herdsmen responsible for multiple kidnapping and killing during an attempt to abduct a woman police inspector on the Ayetoro-Abeokuta Road in the Yewa area of Ogun State, to mention but a few.
Uba, whose physical look in terms of stature and age, ordinarily connotes a vulnerable being, his prodigy in policing, coupled with his intelligence and hardwork prides him amongst very few promising and personable youths this present generation should look up to in bringing sanity to the society.
CSP Uba Adams, a B.sc graduate in Economics from the Imo State University, was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on August 15, 2002 as a Cadet Inspector, Course 36.
His first posting was to the Adamawa Police Command in 2004. In 2005, he was posted to Imo State Command, and served in the then Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), heading the Anti-robbery Squad, code-named “Hawk Squad”, where he was till 2008. In 2009, he was mobilized and posted to Squadron 32 of the Mobile Police Force (Mopol), Abakaliki in Ebonyi State. Because of his experience in operations and administration, he was made the Administrative Officer (AO) of the squadron.
Uba was later transferred in an inter squadron to Mopol 48, Ahoada in Rivers State in 2011, where he led a unit of mobile men, controlling four local government council areas, comprising Imooha, Asaritolu, Degema and Abonima.
He was one of the mobile men who brought peace and sanity to the local government areas during the heat of militancy.
Also, during a communal clash that rocked Omoku, Aggah and Ngbede in Ohaji-Egbema, between 2014 and 2015, he was deployed to the area, where his professionalism was brought to fore, and restored peace to the hitherto desolate communities.
Uba was later transferred to Federal Operations of the Force Headquarters, Abuja where he played a vital role in the cattle rustlers and herdsmen crisis that ravaged Niger State, as Officer-in-Charge of SARS.
Thereafter, he was sent on a special course on anti-terrorism and other violent crimes in Enugu, and deployed to Ogun State on July 12, 2016. It was there he hanged his Superintendent (SP) rank.
Due to his gallantry, he was transferred from Ogun State on 5th March, 2019 to Rivers Command as a Squadron Commander of Mopol 48, Ahoada in Rivers State and later posted to Kano as O/C Anti DABA (Anti Cultism) and OC Kano SARS.
In November 2019, he was transferred to Zone 2, Onikan Lagos, to head the Zonal Intervention Squad in Ikorodu Lagos for some months.
No wonder the zone is becoming a-no-go-area for criminals because, no matter how small a lion cub is, no body dares its den.
Uba is a multiple award winner, both within and outside the country, all at the instance of his gallantry. He is the winner of TMnews Magazine Most Consistent Police Officer of the Year 2018 and TMnews Outstanding Crime Buster of the year 2020.
A large-hearted and detribilize officer, Uba is happily married and blessed with good-looking achildren.
