“Ronke Shonde died from respiratory seizure, Police Still Investigating”

RonkeAutopsy report has indicated that the late Mrs. Ronke Shonde, allegedly killed by her husband, might have died from Acute Respiratory Seizure (ARS), bruises and water in the head.

it was gathered that the result of the autopsy, conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital  (LASUTH) was taken to the Police State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department  (SCIID) at Panti, Yaba last night.

The autopsy put the cause of death as myocardial infarction.

Myocardial Infarction is the medical name for heart attack.

Seizures can be caused by a change in the behavioral state resulting from an abnormal electrical activity in the brain; a severe blow to the head, acute fever or heavy intoxication.

A source who confirmed the release of the result last night stated that the cause of the seizure was subject to further investigation especially because of the bruises and water inside the deceased’s head.

He confirmed that there was no link between the bruises on the woman’s skin to her death, adding that it could not be clear if any of the three causes of deaths were as a result of violence or aggressive battery.

An ex-banker, Mrs. Shonde was found dead at her Egbeda residence in Lagos, after neighbours allegedly heard the deceased with her husband, Lekan Shonde quarrelling.

The husband who is being held at the SCIID as the prime suspect allegedly locked the deceased and their two children in their home before fleeing.

After four days in hiding, Shonde surrendered to the police but insisted he was innocent.

Lagos police spokesperson Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police  (SP) said further information will be made public at the appropriate time.

She said: “I can only confirm to you that the autopsy result is out. I cannot give you any other information because it is for the purpose of investigation. There is a directive from the IGP that no one should release any information on that issue.

“The result has not been opened and the family members are yet to be told. At the right time, the public will know.”

Asked if the police will charge the suspect to court, Badmos said “when we get to that bridge, we will let you know.”

It will be recalled that the husband of the deceased, Lekan, 51, was alleged to have beaten his wife to death at their home in the Egbeda-Idimu area of Lagos State, a few days ago.

He had accused Ronke of sleeping with one Kayode, the general manager of a publishing company.

After three days in hiding, Lekan gave himself up to the police.

An outrage had greeted the death of the lady even as the social media was awash with various comments about her death.
