Lawmaker representing Lagelu/Akinyele federal constituency of Oyo State, Olatoye Sugar, has been shot dead, as suspected political thugs engage in violent clashes in parts of Ibadan, the state capital.
Sugar, who was also the Oyo Central senatorial district candidate of the Action Democratic Party in the National Assembly election was attacked on his way from his village where he had gone to vote.
He was reportedly hit in the eye and was rushed to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, where he died.
Reports say the area most affected by the violence is the Lalupon Iyana church axis.
Some residents said that the violence which broke out around 6pm is yet to abate with sporadic gunshots pervading the entire area.
He was rushed into UCH hospital’s Emergency Section around 5pm and was being attended to in the Resuscitating Room was later moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he was being operated upon before he died.
