Lagosians are telling Sanwo Olu the they consider as blunt truth. That Rail should be priority, not 4th Mainland bridge. All major cities are discouraging the use of cars.
He had also been carpeted for not debating alternatives when formulating development strategies. “Lagos will be wise enough to rigorously examine and debate all possible ideas before embarking on a set course.” a passionate Lagosian said.
Lagos is long overdue for railway loop. It will drastically reduce traffic, create jobs and boost the Lagos State economy.
They are of the opinion that Railways (Permanent Way) running on the surface are less expensive to build, operate and maintain compared to Roads and road vehicles..
On modalities to achieve it, the suggestion for Lagos State is that ‘these’ investors for 4th Mainland bridge will be interested in constructing rail lines from Ikorodu down to Lagos Island..from Sango to Lagos Island/VI and from Ikorodu to to VI through Epe..
The investors will make their money in say 10 to 15 years after it (they) becomes (become) operational.
While it is believed that the state concentration should be on mass rail transit, on metroline, not bus rapid or bridge.
It is also believed that In addition to this we need very urgently a Mass transit water transportation system.
It’s a shame that a city like Lagos with over 50% of landmass covered by water does not have a viable waterways transportation!
In his remarks Gbenga Omotosho has said “Nice observations. The rail projects are on course. The Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration will deliver the Blue Line – work is on – and the Red Line – all is set for the construction. The Fourth Mainland bridge is attracting excited investors. Should we tell them to stay away? No. Best.”
