30 dead cows get mass burial, Ondo health workers monitor markets

Barely 24 hours after about 30 cows were found dead at the camp of their owner on the A.U.D. Road, Akungba Akoko in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, the animals have been given a mass burial.

The cows, owned by one Ibrahim Saliu, were reportedly found dead shortly after returning from the grazing field on Sunday.

The traditional ruler of Akungba, Oba Sunday Ajimo, had warned butchers not to sell the dead cows to the residents as the meat could be inimical to their health as the animals died of suspected food poisoning while grazing, adding that any meat merchant caught selling parts of the cows would be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, in a bid to prevent disease outbreak in the community as a result of the death of the cows, it was gathered that health officials from the Akoko South West Local Government Area had begun monitoring markets and food shops to ensure that the meat of the dead animals was not being sold to the people.
