Knocks on Musician , Taye Currency, rated low @ Ladoja’s Coronation

By, Kola Alawiye

Not a few are of the opinion that Taye Akande Adebisi Currency, the boy from Foko, serenading the crowd amid pomp and pageantry at Olubadan’s coronation on Friday messed up big time !

It’s been generally concluded that he bungled an opportunity to brand and resell himself to A-class dignitaries present.

The coronation should have been the best place to prove himself , because he was giving opportunity and enough time to disptlayed that he is a mature Fuji Musician, in the presence of important dignitaries that are presence

It wasn’t even long after the coronation before Ibadan-born music star, Alhaji Taye Akande Adebisi — popularly known as Taye Currency — began receiving backlash over his performance.

Many people expressed deep disappointment, particularly when he sang “Were la fi wo n were.”

The general sentiment was that Apesin delivered a performance far below expectations, and his choice of songs did not align with the grandeur and cultural significance of such a historic occasion.

In some quarters, there were strong arguments that Alhaji Saidi Osupa Akorede would have been a better choice to perform, given his consistent track record and deep understanding of Yoruba cultural music.

His unpardonable errors are said to be his songs, dance steps and mannerism, at a point , during his performance.

Taye Currency, according to some commentaries may have been overwhelmed by the dignitaries and became short of words and to cover up, his inability to be creative he resorted to one of his popular songs: ” .
were la fi nwo were”.

It’s offensive where you have Nigeria number one in attendance. .Some are now of course he view that he has his fans at Iwo road garage not the royals of the palace…he was a wrong artist for the finesse of the palaces

Taye Currency was singing proverb war songs instead of joyful songs. Who is he fighting ?

Some of his fan, are thinking Taye currency was probably under the influence of Hero beer otherwise he should not be singing songs meant for garage boys at Olubadan inauguration.
He was jumping about aimlessly at the gatherings where respected dignitaries, Kings and Chiefs are there present

There is another song ” okunrin dite titi won o ri gele we sori, obinrin dite titi, won ori fila de sori, Adewolu yi tidi baba, e n dite kiri. My question is, in youruba land, who tides gele and puts on a cap between man and woman?

Surprisingly her sang it repeatedly and his band member failed to call his attention to that blunder.

As if acting under influence of substance..this akin to saying … ( my eyes have heard, my ears have seen ).

YOUNEWS posits that in all fairness, Taye Currency actually started off well. He was dishing out traditional Ibadan-originated songs that resonated with the mood of the ceremony.

Even His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Oladoja, the new Olubadan, seemed visibly pleased — smiling and waving his irukere (royal horsetail whisk) in approval.

Unfortunately, things took a downturn. After that promising start, “Baba Honourable” began to fumble.

The song selections that followed felt off — poorly suited for the dignified and culturally rich atmosphere of the coronation.

He disappointed himself singing that kind of song where the president, governor , first class obas and many dignitaries seated shows he is in another world .

The organizers of the coronation event would have used Saidi Oshupa, the most knowledgeable out of them, who knows what to sing in the congregation of elderly people, and what to sing in the congregation of the youths and middle age..

They wouldn’t have called a musician, that did not know the difference between Carnival and Coronation of a paramount rulers of Cities like Ibadan.
