Former Minister, Jumoke Akinjide Returns N650m To EFCC

Jumoke Akinjide, has returned N650 million to the Federal Government. Mrs Jumoke was a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to reports, She told Justice Muslim Sule Hassan of a Federal High Court in Lagos of her intention to release the money to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) without going to court.

The EFCC had however, charge a case of illegal tax avoidance against her over the cash the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State got from Sambo Dasuki.

Her legal advisor, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), told the court that before the beginning of trial, that the political party took the decision to return the money through his client, Mrs Jumoke.

“The whole cash from the charge is the aggregate of N650 million. The assets were campaign cash for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state in the 2015 general elections.

“The respondents who were PDP chieftains in Oyo state following up on the aggregate choice of the party chose to discount the cash.

“I had a word with the EFCC’s attorney, Rotimi Oyedepo, and we think it is insightful going ahead and now not to subject this issue to promote settling and waste the season of the court.
