Newly appointed Coach of the super Eagles ,finidi George has rejected suggestions that he appoints one of his ex team mates as assistant.

A couple of days ago, it was widely reported that the leadership of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) gave Super Eagles newly appointed Head Coach, Finidi George the approval to appoint his assistants.
One of the reports suggested that Finidi was told by his employers to pick between his former teammates in the Super Eagles talking about Emmanuel Amunike or Daniel Amokachi or both.
According to the reports, Finidi rejected working with any of both men. He prefers picking assistants outside the recommended names.
To many, Finidi may appear selfish and arrogant for not wanting to work with his compatriots but those who reason along this line fail to see beyond their noses.
Aside the fact that three of them applied for the Head Coach job which puts them at par and could ruffle feathers in the course of their assignments, should things go wrong (God forbid) and the team fails to qualify for the 2025 AFCON and 2026 World Cup Amunike and or Amokachi may be accused of sabotaging Finidi’s effort to pull him down and eventually take his job.
And if he excels, some people could argue that Amunike and or Amokachi was (or were) busy doing the coaching job of the team while Finidi took the glory.
There would have been an argument that Finidi has no CAF Coaching license and UEFA B license which Amunike has …and that the bulk of the technical job were done by Amunike.
So Finidi needs to prove how competent he is. He needs to prove that he is equal to the task and that his choice by the BFF is the best. He must work to take the glory of and when things go fine….or take the blames and knocks if and when things go bad.
You don’t boss nor work with people you can’t control.
You don’t boss nor work with people whose CVs are somehow better than yours. You don’t boss or work with people whose experience on the job or qualification are higher than yours
Interesingly the NFF must be commended for allowing Finidi to pick his assistants. That’s a fair deal and an innovation.
